Sunday 5 February 2017 – Candlemas at Holy Trinity

HOLY TRINITY has risen to the challenge to keep the candles in the Advent wreath burning right up to Candlemas, although it was a near thing.

The Infancy Narrative finishes with the Feast of the Presentation of Christ to the Temple, also known as Candlemas, as the Light of the World is recognised.

The set reading from the Prophet Malachi, who was writing 2,600 years ago, seems as relevant today as in the time of Jesus:
“I will be swift to bear witness against the adulterers, against the liars, against those who oppress workers in their wages, the widows and the orphans, against those who thrust aside the alien, and those who d0 not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.”
